A five-second microcosm is a moment in a Tiradesverse movie that is, as would be expected, roughly five seconds long and can ironically encapsulate the entire movie in that brief amount of time. Another way of saying this would be, "This scene is the entire movie in five seconds..."
This is mainly a way for James to make a cynical comment on how a film's director and writer(s) made the film in question.
Examples in the Tiradesverse[]
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation - Vilmer Slaughter saying to Jenny: "You don't know what the hell you're doing."
- Glitter
- Samurai Cop - Joe Marshall trying to surprise Okamura and arrest him, but being unable to open a goddamned door. Essentially, the movie is an complete, laughable failure and this scene is the epitome of that.
- Silent Hill: Revelation 3D - The camera focuses on a dumpster that says in big, bold letters: "GARBAGE".
- The Apocalypse (1997) - Vendler saying, "This is getting monotonous."
- Jem and the Holograms - The poo emoji
- Mega Shark VS. Giant Octopus - Any shot of the protagonists? pouring one colored liquid into another.
- The Spirit - "Gonna get worse before it gets better, pretty boy!" to quote The Octopus
