SYMBOLISM!!! is when a director tries entirely too hard to use obvious metaphors, cheesy analogous dialogue, or supposedly symbolic imagery to make their movie seem "deep" or "artistic". Many times, they do this to the point where they are practically beating you over the head with it. In these instances, the audience is encouraged to yell out "SYMBOLISM!!!" to make fun of it every chance they get.
